How good are engines on the 2001 dodge durangos???????

it has a 4.7L v8 MPI OHV(not sure what that means??answears much appreciated!!thanks

V8 engine sounds good but nowadays, when you look at a car its not the company, it s  the millage, well its sorta and SUV and it give low mileage, i suggest you get a honda Pilot, gives very good mileage for an SUV, its like 23 MPG, while as a Durango is like 19 or sumthing. In the end it all depends on what you want good luck.

I have a 2000 Dakota with the 4.7L It is a great engine and truck. I do not use it for daily driving. The mileage is not great. Under 20 no matter what you do.

I am assuming that is their pre-HEMI model. They are supposed to be the best they got, but they are the worst gas guzzler on the planet.

the 4.7 hasnt been  around for that long. it first came out in the Jeep  grand Cherrokee in  1999 in a high output version, then  in  2000 it was put in to the dakota, durango and the ram as a non high output version. so  its just 9 years old.

now on  to your question. they are very good engine. I get like 17 city and 22 hwy. my best was 24 hwy. they have good power and a dependable lil engine. when you look at the 5.2 and the 5.9  I hear more problems with  peopel having thiose than the 4.7.  

just keep the fluids changed in them and regular up keep and it should last you for a long time.  as dodge man  said there are some with over 200,000 miles on them.  sure like all engines its not perfect. there are some with failures. but so  far its looking like a good engine platform.

the 4.7 is a real good engine ,their a little hard to work on sometimes but a very dependable engine,its newer version small block engine is all it is but its s good design and has been doing real well,i have seen some with well over 200 thousand already on them and still running real good,not to bad on gas either,good luck.

They have been using that engine for 25 years. It has past the test of time and is a great engine. I have owned lots of them and they never die.
