Question:

How good are the current Springbok loose forward trio?

Burger, Smith and Van Niekerk could be seen as one of the great loose forward trios. It's hard to think back to the last trio that would be as good as these three. Considering there is still Spies and Kankowski in the wings, the Springboks have some scarey depth.

  1. Youu can't base it on one test. The week before they were out played. They are a good but to suggest they are the best?. Maybe they are the best Springbok trio. But remember Collins, McCaw and co to name a few and Waugh, Smith the list goes on.

  2. They are good but van niekerk is way past his time and i was very suprised to see him back playing for SA, kankowski should be there at 8

to whoever said spies is world class alongside burger, no way. burger is yes but spies has yet to claim his stake as world class, he has plenty of promise but has been out for a while with injury. give him time and he may be. SA jumped the gun with Steyn too. he not yet as good as they claim him to be, once again give him time. they are both very young and there peak is still a few years away

And to who said english loose trio at world cup last year best made me laugh. you got to be kidding. they might as well play in the front row as they were just as slow and lethargic as the english front row

Juan Smith is the underated player of the loose trio but in my opinion the best, he has a very high work rate and gets on with his job and he does it very well

  3. they are good but the England trio back in the world cup was better. They came off the line more then the current Bok team and the flankers had better form

  4. Yeah, they're what we (ABs) used to be.

I reckon the springboks have the best loose forward trio in the world right now, half the reason why they beat us.

  5. Pretty good, but feel that Piere Spies should be at number 8. Burger and Spies are world class and would be named in most international teams.

  6. ya burger is a brick wall, tackles like a demon and cleans like theres no 2moro

smith is awesome, he was arguably the best flanker (form wise) in the rwc 2007, he has a fat hand off!!!

van niekerk was goood but.... spies is huge, fast and absolutely gifted! all i can say is go and watch the video of him vs england, he hands off like 3 and steps two hahaha he's awsome! so is they added him for the aussie test which it sounds like they will, it will b a gr8 loose trio

  7. they are pretty good...van Viekerk is experienced but i reckon hes past his best. around 2003 before he got injured he was the man! the last loose trio that i can think of that wud in my opinion be better was Zinzan brooke, Michael Jones and Josh Kronfeld....now thats a pretty awesome trio!

  8. the only scary thing about them is the danger of other teams getting their eyes gouged out,or fingers getting bitten off, from the foul play.

  9. they are alright. obviously schalk burger is world class, but there are players out there who would be in a world 15 before our players would be.

micheal jones, josh kronfeld, zinzan brooke. best back 3 combination ever.

  10. i love them, they are absolutly fantastic, schalk burger though, shou he is made up brick would hate too take a tackle offf of him.

just also need to throw mathfields name in, as he is in arguabley the best number 2 in the world.

  11. Hey mate, I think its the 'Boks' time in the sun. We should rather step back out of the limelight and make them the favourites. They certainly have incredible depth. I as talking to a mate who has just returned from an African Safari, and he tells me that they have a number of rugby academies brimming with talent. It does not get easier for us...but we wil kick ****...Go the AB's!!!!
