My 53 lbs thrust trolling motor pushes my 16 ft boat at about 4 mph with 2 people on board.

Depends on what thrust the trolling motor has. A 28lb. will work if not in very windy conditions but I would suggest at least 68lb with variable speed. Also if you can mount it near the front it will work better. It is like it is easier to pull a chain instead of push one.

It should do great, I have a trolling motor on my 18 ft bass boat and it works fine when 2-3 men on board fully loaded with gear, fuel, accessories (a lot of weight)
