im 14, by the way and it's outside of school becuase my school doesn't provide it

i did gymnastics for a couple years but i had to stop when i entered high school, and yesterday my mom asked if i wanted to cheerleading instead because it would be more convenient for them.

i have the muscle to do it, but i can only do standing and roundoff back handspring, so im afraid i wont be good enough because i cant do layouts and flips and stuff.

and i dont wanna join and be really bad compared to everyone else my age. do you have be able to do certain things for cheer? i was just thinking of taking tumbling classes for a bit intul i get better and then joing later.

  1. Well I know you have to be pretty descent. I do cheerleading but I cant tumble.. So if you can tumble.. or do anything then you get brownie points. Dont worry about it.. You will be fine.

  2. It depends on how good the other cheerleaders are on the team.  If they aren't too good, you don't have to be that good either.  If they are very good, you need to be better.  Good luck.

  3. Are you interested in recreational cheer or competitive cheer? You would easily make a recreational cheer team with your back handspring.

Competitive cheerleading teams have 5 different levels which are divided into  2 different age groups (junior and senior teams). Level 1 is the lowest and level 5 is the highest. You'll need to tryout for a team to determine which level you're on. I'm guessing that you'd begin on a Level 2 senior team with your current skills/age. Level 2 emphasizes basic tumbling (multiple roundoff backhandsprings), stunting, and jumps. Don't worry about "not being good enough"! You'll be placed on a team where you're at the same skill-level as your teammates.

  4. You think you are bad?  Only *2* girls on the cheer team at my school can do a back handspring, and only 1 can do a layout.  So out of the 30 or so cheerleaders at my school, only 1 is as good as you think you need to be, and 2 are as good as you, and the rest are not as good as you. And guess what?  Our school won 1st place in the regional competition, and placed 7th in Nationals.  My point is, you do not need crazy tumbling skills to be a cheerleader, just to have lots of spirit and be sharp on all your moves!  Good luck, I say go for it!

  5. It really does depend on how popular cheerleading is in your area. In my scholl you would be above adverage, but in a scholl 15 minutes away, that would barely get you on the team. You should go to the organization you are thinking of joining and ask about the tumbling skills that you will need. If your skills are less than good enough go to your local gymnastics place and take tumbling classes. Mine has one class that is specialized for cheer tumbling (but im still trying to get a roundoff backhandspring).

  6. A lot of  ppl that didnt make cheer was bcause the couldnt do a backhandspring. U would be good and u can catch on quick

  7. Well im not sure but i think they audition for people to join or is that just high school?

    ok well im not sure.

it depends how they do it.......
