I read an article on cricinfo from John Stern praising SideBottom and the people who read it had strong opinions either against him or for him so I was wondering how good do people really think he is i mean personally i dont rate him highly he has taken lots of wickets against New Zealand and West Indies but against India and Sri Lanka he took 13 wickets at an average of 48 so what do you think

  1. lol, sidebottom, is probaly one of the slowest international fast bowlers in the world, perhaps only vass and kylie mills are slower. He swings the ball a little, but he cant reverse swing the ball because he has no pace and so he isnt very good over the wicket so hes limited. Against sri lanka he struggled, and against india he really struggled, despite two of the test pitches being very swing and seamer freindly conditions. Hes overrated

  2. he is best swing bowler

  3. well not as good as that writer makes him out to be he has a long way to go he hasnt even taken 100 wickets in test cricket he has only played in England New Zealand and Sri Lanka he has a lot to prove on different surfaces and conditions and especially against better teams

  4. I think he is an okay bowler the best England have at the moment but since he hasnt proven he can get wickets against stronger opposition than New Zealand and West Indies right now I dont rate him highly

  5. Ryan Sidebottom will not do well against South Africa in the upcoming series or other good teams he looks really ineffective at times against New Zealand if the New Zealand batsmen put more value on their wickets he would have very few wickets in this series it was not sidebottom who saved them when they were 179 down it was panesar i dont think he is that good i would say average fast bowler

  6. I think he's brilliant.

He isn't young by any means and he suddenly got brought into the England team and has done a brilliant job, consistently getting wickets and batting reasonably well too.

I rate the guy very highly.

  7. Ryan Sidebottom is a very decent bowler. He has performed very well since his return to Test cricket last year. However, he needs to be pitted against better batting line ups, so we can evaluate just how good he is.

The forthcoming series against South Africa should provide just that.

For me personally, I think he would make a very good third seamer in most Test match attacks. It is up to him to rise to the challenge, and prove he is better than his detractors claim him to be.

  8. I think he is very good & rate him 8 out of 10.

  9. I think he's probably one of the top 5 pace bowlers in the world at the moment, and he's got quite a few years left in him if he stays injury-free. He's bowling a lot quicker than he used to, he can swing the new ball both ways, he makes the batsman play almost every ball. He doesn't go for many extras, or for many runs either, and he takes top-order wickets. In Sri Lanka, the wicketkeeper dropped 5 (yes FIVE) catches off Sidebottom (and there were more drops all over the field too)...his figures would have been pretty special for a seamer in Sri Lanka if those had been caught.

What more could you ask for, except for more regular support from his teammates?

  10. I think the english over rate him but they dont have anyone better so who can blame them for praising him so much

  11. Not bad

  12. a lot of Englands best bowlers are injured" fredy "or lost form lately so he is top bowler at present

he can swing the ball quite well in England , but on flat pitches like India im not sure
