How good is San Francisco Zoo?

I live about two blocks from the Zoo and I haven't gone in about three years even though it is free every first Wednesday of the month. If you are going with kids, I think it is fine. The animals are placed very far away so it is hard to see some of them. The zoo is a bit on the small side too (takes me about half an hour to walk through it). There is a petting zoo though. From 1 to 10 I would give it a 6.

Better than Oakland.  There are cute baby giraffes right now too.

I went there about a year ago and I was pretty disappointed. I believe that the location (right next to the ocean) is not very natural for a lot of the animals there used to warmer climates. For example, they have lemurs there ( think the dancing animals on Madagascar) and they were literally freezing! They were all huddled around eachother under heat lamps. I honestly left a tad depressed and angry. I say if you want to make a trip out of it, go to San Diego!!!
