Is my Toshiba TV (model number 32af42) compatible with a HDMI cable. Can this TV be used with PS3 and a samsung hdtv digital terrestrial receiver

  1. According to your manual

You don't have an HDMI input.  You do have component inputs, which is a pretty good quality connection.  That might work with the samsung receiver, if it has component outputs.   The PS3 has an HDMI to composite video cable, which would allow you to connect it to your tv that way.  Not optimal but it would work.

There are several HDMI to component converters for sale on ebay, but they look kind of pricey, around 100 bucks.

I use an hdtv receiver on a none hdtv set, using component inputs.  It looks good.

  2. The Samsung will perform better than a nonHDTV tuner on your TV because your TV is capable of progressive scan.

The maximum resolution on your TV (it's native resolution) is 640 x 480p. I would use the component video (red/green/blue) connections and leave it at that. That will give you the best picture, better than using the TVs tuner, better than Svideo and better than composite video. They will only give you 480i. You won't gain by trying to convert HDMI to analog component for a non HDTV.
