Question:

How good is my IQ? Does it increase?

I have an IQ roughly around 124. I did some free test thing. I did several, they're all around this number.

I went on wikipedia and it showed a bell chart, showing that out of a large population, the average IQ was roughly 100. Very few had 120-130, even fewer had 140.

How advantageous is it to have my IQ? And is it true it increases with age? (I'm 15).

  1. The average IQ is now thought to be 110 with roughly 68% of people in the 100 to 120 range. So although you are above average, you are not that far above.  It is hard to test for the IQ because experience with such tests would tend to inflate scores. Your IQ score will probably stablize around age 18.

I have a brother who's IQ is probably 150, but he has absolutely no common sense.  Having a high IQ is nice, but it isn't everything. We all wish we were smarter, or richer, or better looking, or yada, yada, yada...

  2. Yeah, i think IQ does increse with age...but to a point.  You might want to double check the average IQ because sometimes wikipedia is wrong.

  3. I did pretty much every free IQ test out there, and the scores disagreed by up to 60 points!  Internet IQ tests are not accurate, and many of them have inflated scores - they're trying to sell you something, after all, and they don't accomplish that by insulting you.  So take any internet IQ test with a grain of salt - the bell curve is for official IQ tests, not internet IQ tests.

No, IQ is supposed to be stable over time.  Most tests weight your IQ test with your age to accomplish this.

  4. most people i have met have an IQ of around 110, my IQ is around 130, I've taken multiple test and they are always around 130, and i took my first IQ test last year and first got a 128 (i was 15), the last test i took i got a 132, and that was probably a month ago, and i have a friend with an IQ of 162 and last year his IQ was 140, so as you can see his IQ has increased greatly, i dont know how, but it did, and hes, not a liar he took it when i was there, I'm not sure if yours will rise 22 points like my friends did, but there is definitely a chance

  5. A 124 is above average...careers that people with your IQ have:

This chart shows what you should be able to do.

  6. an IQ measures how quickly you learn and it doesn't reflect on your age it increases when you do stuff like brain teasers or chess 140 is more considered a genius. 124 is well above average for a 15 year old

also online IQ tests aren't very accurate and your iq changes depending on the condition your in like if you take one Right when you wake up it'll probably be lower then normal

  7. No offence but those free IQ tests generally tend to add 10-20 points to most peoples IQs so I wouldn't trust their results. Also in my experience most people (not all) who claim to have high IQ's usually tend to be good with puzzles and are able to memorize text books well, but always seem to fail badly at putting their knowledge to any practical use (I'm sadly a good example of this, IQ of 134).

I know a lot of people will disagree with me but I generally find IQ to be a bad way to distinguish intelligence (well unless you're comparing extremes like an IQ or 70 compared to an IQ of 120).

  8. Did you have to enter your age or date of birth for the IQ test? If so, they adjusted your score for your age so it is not likely to change in the future.

I guess it depends on which test you took, but I have found the online IQ tests to be not that accurate. If you want to see a more reliable test, ask the guidance counselor at your school to see your most recent scores (I think the schools test us every so often).

I don't know how advantageous it is to have an IQ of 124. I mean, in the business world, it is all about communication and that sort of stuff and IQ doesn't test anything in that area. But it will probably help you in school, since you're better at like spacial analysis, logical stuff, etc.

  9. 124 is a good IQ. If you really want to know what it is, check with your school's guidance counselor. They'll have test results from an actual proctored test (you would have taken it in the 2nd or 3rd grade, but may not remember doing so).

Age is actually taken into account as far as IQ test results are concerned, so if may not go up with age, in some cases it can go down. You can boost your score by reading a lot, doing "brain teaser" puzzles, and practicing arithmetic in your spare time.

  10. Sorry to burst your bubble, but these IQ tests are very inaccurate, and aren't the same as the ones they use to professionally test people's IQ's.  I took one of these tests when I was 12 (i'm 16 now) and scored a 130.  I'll admit that i'm a lot brighter than a lot of kids my age, but i'm not extremely advanced like my score might suggest.
