i know that a MAC11 is not very accurate on full auto because it shoots so fast, but what about semi auto? can it actually be a decent handgun on semi auto or is it a crappy weapon regardless? also, i know that the MAC11 is 9mm and .380 caliber, and the MAC10 is .45 ACP. which is the best ammo for a pistol like this?

  1. it's designed as a spray and pray gun and it does a great job for its intended purpose.

  2. It is apparent that you have never fired a mac. It is not a pistol. It is classified as a sub gun. It is a close quarters weapon. The mac 11 does exactly what it is supposed to do.

I fired one that fired from an open bolt. I believe that it was at least 2 times as fast as an M16. I would guess it put out 1000 or more rounds per min. In close quarters, it makes whatever in front of you, unsurvivable.

I fired at an average sized pumpkin at about 10 yards. I was firing short bursts. Each one second burst was sure to put 3 to 5 rounds down range. I hit the pumpkin each time; but not with all rounds. I then expended an entire 32 round mag. Everything that was in front, behind, and around the pumpkin was hit; so was the pumpkin.

Again it is the right tool for the job thing. If I were to have to clear rooms in a building, the mac is a fine weapon that is still being used word wide.

PS The mac I fired was full auto only. It was  registered as a machine gun, and to comply with law, It can only be full auto. I am not sure the mac can be fired single shot, even ones that are in military service. I believe that it is full auto all the time.

  3. fvirst  of all, owning a fully automatic anything is not something the average person should even be considering . . . and the cost is usually 3,000.00+ to do so. furthermore, although the mac 11 can be found in both 9mm and .380 ACP versions,  the mac 12, is explicitly designed for .380ACP. The mac12 is the only one i have handled, and from what i understand, Cobray and Uzi  make a great deal of compatable accessories to customize the various versions. as far as accuracy i was hitting a pop can at 40 yards. however, to me they just are not a practical hand gun. they are heavy and bulky, and forget using it as a ccw type gun. its fun as a plinker and it looks cool though. i'll give it that much. as far as caliber goes 45ACP kicks butt, but its hard to control, which is why government agencies shy away from it. 40 S&W is widely accepted these days by authority types. 9mm is still okay, if you pick the right loads. i don't know if i'd put a whole lot of faith in .380ACP if it came down to a do or die situation, of course if you have a hi cap mag in the mac12, .380 would be just fine

  4. Not very.  It was designed as an automatic pistol so it is not really good for anything else.  For starters, its rate of fire is too rapid in full-auto mode.  And its too unwieldy for use as a regular pistol.  Originally the .380 model had to be factory equipped with a sound-suppressor because in full-auto mode it was deafening to the shooter.  So unless you are willing to get around the legalize of owning a fully automatic and possibly suppressed machine-pistol, consider something else.

  5. Ergonomically the whole Mac series of machine pistols is a joke.

I wouldn't even consider owning one. They are truly just a "spray and pray" lead dispenser.
