we might be moving back to my husband's home country of saudi arabia (al jubail). I might be pregnant already and was wondering how good the health care system in saudi is. So far my desicion if we stay in the united states is a birth with a midwife and i really want to try and do it without all the drugs.

Is this still a viable option in saudi?

I am american and i dont know much about how that goes in this country so any basics you can give me about how it will be would be wonderful. thanks.

oh yeah, and we will be living with or atleast near my mother-in-law so how much will she be involved?

  1. majority of all the hospitals and clinics run on the american system of hospitals and medicine, etc..

sure there might be some tiny home grown clinics where things seems backwards, but you have choices.. all the huge major clinics and hospitals are clean, nice, modern and up to date on all the facilities of a western hospital and majority of the doctors speak english/arabic and some other languages. and then there are even western doctors hired in some of those hospitals..

I gave birth both here and in USA with my two kids. and believe me.. I was spoiled more in SAudi than in USA.. (and funny enough, my doctor was from USA (the one here in saudi).. I had excellent care.. And they are willing to work out with you what type of birthing process you want to try..

  2. it is very alright as mintee said

it is only you have to ask about the hospital and the doctor from previous people who tried it

i know few western expats who gave birth in saudi, and i didn't hear any complain about the services here
