How good is the java API???

What are your experiences with this tutorial and is there a better guide?

Basically i would like to learn programming from scratch until i can confidently sit on my own and create GUI programs for fun.

Is this the best guide to go through?

actually i git in to programing with java about three months ago and i started from sun tutorials, they are very useful and very easy to understand. but some times u can get stuck, sometimes it just gets to complicated. the only thing i can recommend is copy down the code and run it try to go line by line to see if it helps. also there is this website too, but its just examples:

but it is very good for understanding different topics. also if u can go get some books from Wrox company they have realy good books in java.
