Question:

How good is the sound quality of an MTX Sledgehammer?

I know the Sledgehammer is supposed to hit pretty hard, and MTX makes a big deal about designing the subs and enclosure to work well together, but I wonder how good they actually sound. I'm thinking about getting one with two 12's, but I'm kind of cautious because it's a vented enclosure and the vented enclosure I have now sounds like total ***. My Punch P1's hit hard as h**l in it, but sound horrible at certain frequencies. I love to get a good thump, but I'm sick of poor sound quality. So, does anyone here have any experience with the Sledgehammer? I just want to know how good it really is before I spend the money and get another disappointment.

  1. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a SQ setup.  Almost anything in a vented enclosure you're going to have to give up SQ to attain SPL.  I would definitely audition one for a lengthy period before buying if you're worried about being let down.  Without naming any brands per se, there are definitely some sealed enclosure setups you might want to look at instead if you're going to drop more money into improving your existing setup.
