I was looking at the Saturn Astra specifically which I think is actually built in Europe.

  1. Yes, its from Europe. GM is importing now many cars to fill their needs from other GM markets. The Caddy Catera was an Opel import. So is the new Chevy Impala. The new Saturns are on the same platform.

Since they are new here, all you can do is check info on them in Europe for issues, flaws, etc. The Catera did hold up well, was a sound car, etc. Go find a used on and check it out to see how they last for miles, wear and tear, etc. I was impressed by them, and thats says a lot being that I work around used cars (not a salesman).

  2. we had a 97 SC 1...lots of little problems...worst was electrical...cut out while driving [mountain roads] traded for a Subaru...much happiness now!

  3. I didn't have a good experience with them...

  4. the newer ones are a lot better than the older ones was,and they wasn't really bad cars ,they just gave a few more problems than other cars did,but the newer ones are doing a lot better on gas mileage as well as owner satisfaction,i like the Saturn their a good vehicle, and they have a lot of models to choose from also,id just as soon drive a Saturn as any other car make their is,i have a friend that owns two of them, and he wont drive nothing but a saturn, good luck.

  5. They have been great since their turnaround in about 2006. Before then, they were BAD per say, just difficult to work with. New Saturns are great and are just as reliable as Toyotas and Hondas you see today. I think they have one of the best lineups of any manufacturer.

  6. New Saturns are amazing. GM tried a new attempt at making their cars more popular by using GM's European Brands, such as Opel.

As you may already know, the Saturn Astra is essentially an Opel Astra, 2006's Best Selling Car In Europe. This car offers class leading styling and build quality. The only thing turning people away from this car are a lack of American Comforts, such as cup holders (not enough), and a lack of a center armrest.

My advice to you with this car is that if you can stand no center armrest, buy it.

If your curious, here is a picture of the Opel Astra:

    Good Luck

  7. I guess you should also check insurance quotes for Saturn Astra before buying one, for example here: http://autoinsurance.undonet.com

As I know it is expensive to insure.
