Congratulations Bahrain! Can anyone tell me why there cannot be a dispensation for athletic uniforms? I understand the Islamic law that applies but it seems woefully unfair on the female athletes to disadvantage them with heavier uniforms (which must be terribly hot) that work against good circulation and would constrict movement incrementally. How much faster could she have gone even in a conservative athletic uniform?

I would really be interested to hear back from Muslim guys AND girls re this point.

Thanks and Congratulation again Bahrain... It was a great run and I'll be cheering this girl for the rest of the races!

  1. yes, i really really admire what she is doing! She is being one AND another; a Muslim AND an athlete.

-Sport, in the modern world, is seen by many as breaking records, being the best and doing the extreme. Many push their other values in life aside in order to better themselves in their particular "sport".-

I think this completely defeats the true meaning of sport; keeping physically and mentally healthy. Moreover, it in many cases and many ways damages the human mind and moreover, blinds him from the true path. This is undesirable in Islam. The Bahrain runner is showing the true way of being an athlete, and , believe me, that is    not     easy!!

Another thing; The women clothing (Hijab) has a very meaningful purpose if understood. In -many- cases, it is the choice of the person. So if she is even forced to run without Hijab, I am sure she will still have her Hijab. She can only achieve what she has done with her pure belief.

  2. I agree, great run!! Not sure about special dispensation.  I'd imagine religion would come before sport.

Anyway, was great to see her doing so well!!
