How good would a copper BBQ be?

Hi

I am looking to convert my old copper hot water tank into a bbq, would anyone know how the copper would take to being heated up to this temperature, our old stainless bbq didn't really last that long when used regulars, would copper be better or worse

  1. Take the copper tank to the scrap merchants,you should get £50 for it.

    You can get a good bbq for that price.

      


  2. copper withstands the heat from my welding torch (800*C) should imagine it would be fine for a BBQ but I wouldn't bet more than a fiver on it  

  3. Once the charcoal got up to temperature, the copper would start to melt and then burn with a pretty blue flame - until the fire fell out of the bottom.  Then it would go out.

    Not a very good way to cook your burgers, but it would be an interesting spectacle.

  4. copper is not a good metal to use for open flame bbq cause the heating of the copper at those tempetures will cause a chemical reaction and release a toxic gas that can cause illness or worse be fatal
