  1. Not so green since the batteries only last about two years and the biggest waste from cellular phones are expended batteries.

  2. Not very, cell phones are only good for 2 or 3 years. Cordless phones are a little better they last 5 to 8 years. Some of my land line  phones are 30 years old. They all use about the same amount of electricity in a years time.

  3. It's NOT. As a nation we dispose of millions of cells phones a year. They're so easy to replace and so cheap now that we just get a new one every few months and toss the old one in the trash.

Not to mention all the materials required to manufacture that tiny little object, and make it work efficiently. I think the metal used is called "chroton" (sp?). It's only found in a couple places on the planet. We go in, mine for the material, rip out all the trees and displace the indigineous tribes, in the end basically funding guerilla warfare as they fight for the best mining and prices on the metal.

Let's talk about the billing in cell phones. Many people haven't opted out of paper bills, and with all the text messages and calls we make many bills use half a ream of paper just to print out our monthly activity, which we glance at and toss in the garbage.

Cell phones are very convenient and could be recycled quite easily... we're just lazy
