How hard and stressful is the IB diploma program?

i've been doing lots of research about whether to go to an IB school or AP, and many people suggested IB b/c the IB is more worth it in the end. but what people have also said is that the IB is hard work and that i won't have any time for anything but school and homework (no social life)!

I just wanted to know how hard and stressful actually is??? and do US and Canadian universities also give credit to people with the IB diploma????

thank you

  1. It is more work to get an IB, but it's still not the hardest secondary school diploma out there. You would be doing one more year of high school, and take some more advanced classes. I'm pretty sure you also need to speak another language proficiently.

I'm sure that IB and AP classes are pretty much the same as far as difficulty is concerned. Otherwise IB schools would be offering AP classes as well as regular classes wouldn't they? I'm pretty sure that some US schools give credit for IB scores if they're over a certain minimum.

If I had the choice I would rather take AP classes and then pay for the exams rather than pay for whole years at an international school.

    Hope this helps!

    Good luck

  2. IB was not that hard and stressful for me, but it was challenging. In the end, I loved it and I would definitely go back and do it again, hands down. You get such an edge in college,(including college credit--I got 16 hours) and you are so prepared unlike most college freshman because you will have already done an extended essay, taken theory of knowledge and just be, well, more knowledgeable. Most schools will accept the credit, especially abroad. I really had a great experience. I think because schools in the US are so behind other developed countries people like to complain about how bad and hard IB is but have you seen the tests they take at the end of high school in France? They are so comprehensive! US students can be up this level if they choose, it is just more challenging and takes effort but it was so worth it. Also, be prepared for the challenges and be prepared to adjust your schedule, I was in orchestra, tennis and track plus other clubs and I managed. Good luck!
