How hard does a welterweight hit?

i know its a pretty stupid question but when i watch boxing like when i watch miguel cotto(since im a big cotto fan) and when he punches it doesn't seem he hits hard on tv, why is that?

  3. It depends on the guy your fighting everyone doesn't hit the same. In Miguel Cotto's case he hits hard because naturally he probably weighs about 165- 170 pounds when he isn't fighting. That why guys have training camps to lose excess weight but losing weight doesn't take the sting off your punches he still hits just like before its just now his weight is down.

    Another factor that goes into punching that people ever take into account is accumulation and technique. If I slap you like a girl once it wont hurt but if it slap you 50 times in a row its going to start hurting. Joe Louis once said " Rain drops will hurt if you get hit with enough of them".  Then Technique has a huge part as well if you have the right levrage and balence any punch is going to hurt thats why guys who think big muscles mean you can punch hard always end up looking stupid.

  4. How the punch looks does not always tell you how hard it is.
