  1. I doubt its a walk in the park :P

  2. i think the worst thing will be money.

it would be cool to return to the Moon.  I bet I could come up with a few neato experiments to perform that would do real science, instead of Mr Wizard science.

Unfortunately, the world sucks right now.  Wackos with bombs are making parts of it dangerous to live in, wackos with guns other parts, wackos with sneaker factories in other parts.  Face it, we are surrounded by wackos.

    I wish you the best.

  3. Think of it this way...there are a lot fewer astronauts than hall of fame basketball players, and only 12 have actually been on the moon.  That's very elite company.  You have to be blessed with perfect physical and mental attributes and then be willing to work extremely hard.

  4. Astronauts go though a whole lot of training. They have to study for many years as well. The ones that have gone to the moon had a purpose. They where scientists, so if you want to work hard at it give it your best. Start by going to college and getting a degree in something that NASA could use. They also have space camps for all ages, so I would inquire about them and you can learn everything it takes to become an astronaut. :D Get started and try your best, follow your dream.

  5. Going to the Moon was pretty difficult in 1969.  It will be a bit less difficult this time, since we have expanded our expertise in communications, rendezvous, and systems engineering.  But the newer missions will be more difficult and complex.  So we may be in for another rough ride.

People studying today to be astronauts have a very good chance of being selected to fly to the Moon.

  6. I don't believe it is as hard as some people think. The problem isn't "how," but "why."  When you're able to build vehicles and space stations which are able to sustain humans and orbit the earth, it's just one good push and you're on your way to the moon.  Then orbiting the moon presents no special problems, and landing on it would be a piece of cake, these days.  It was a little bit more dicey back in 1969. Contrary to popular opinion, going through the van Allen belts is not lethal. There is only a slight risk there.

Maybe by the time you would be an astronaut, there might be some mission to the moon or even Mars.  I won't be around to watch you go, but best wishes to you in any case.

Apujols, why would anyone who *admits* in his profile that he believes in any US conspiracy theory, think he is going to impress anyone with his opinions?  It's one thing for you to hold stupid beliefs perpetuated by utterly uncredentialed crackpots, but another thing entirely when you call other people stupid for having dreams for the future. Your kind are stick-in-the-mud naysayers who contribute nothing and disparage the achievements of people you couldn't hold a candle to.  In short: what a guy!!!

Edit: When I said it's not as hard as some think, I was talking about "our" ability to go to the moon, not "your" ability.  Here are two profiles, illustrating just what kinds of people become astronauts. They're not all like these, but most of them are pretty close.  Maybe one day, you'll be one of them.

  7. It is hard, but possible.  NASA does have plans to send astronauts to the moon ago in just over a decade from now.  If you start now working out and getting your PhD, you should be ready just in time.

  8. Reach for the stars and maybe you'll get the moon!
