  1. I'm a male adn I have been a kindergarten teacher for 7 years now.  I started as a second grade teacher and taught that grade for 8 years and when the kindergarten opening came up, the principal came to ma and asked me if I wanted the position.  I  accepted it, and have done well in that grade.  I'm sure there is concern as to why a male wants to be a kindergarten teacher.  Does he want the grade because he cannot handle the discipline needed in the upper grades?  Is he going to molest the kids?

I know if I were on a committee to hire a kindergarten teacher, I would be much more comfortable hiring a female teacher for the job.  But if there was a male teacher in the school that I had seen working with children, having the tenderness needed for the kindergarten grade level, I wouldn't mind hiring him for the job.

Some people believe that kindergartners need a motherly role in kindergarten.  Others say that children who only live with one parent usually live with the mother, so having a male model in kindergarten is good for them.

  2. in today's society, not that hard...in times past it was unheard of for whatever reasons, but now you see it a lot :) in fact, i work for a daycare that is ran by a man...he is active in the classes and all...the idea is not as foreign as it used to be

  3. No different than a female unless your name is Michael Jackson.

  4. not hard at all.....No matter what s*x u r u go through all the same process...u may even find it abit easier as there is not alot of males in nursery profession n really there needs 2 be more nurseries would be happy for male inspiration N ALSO 2 Show children males can do jobs as well

    GO 4 IT

  5. just as hard as a female i would say...

there cant be that many sexists out there to make it harder for males to be teachers.

  6. No harder than a female to become one.

Getting hired is a different matter.

Your resume/college transcript/student teaching reviews will speak for itself as far as getting hired.

Some schools will prefer you because you will provide a male-role model, some will want to "save you" for a higher grade level when boys seem to need a male influence more, and some schools will be a bit suspicious of a male teacher in a younger grades (sad but true).

However, there is a first grade male teacher in his school.

  7. Not very hard. They cannot refuse you based on what s*x you are.

  8. I don't think it is that difficult. What seems to be the problem of not having as many males working in early childhood profession is that the pay is not great. I think that is probably true with any age. Over the 20 plus years I have been involved in preschools I have met many dedicated men. Some are center owners, some are public school teachers and a few teach in private centers.
