Question:

How hard is it for a single man to adopt a child?

I was just wondering. If a man has a good job but is single how hard is it for him to adopt a child, the gender and age of the child doesn't matter. I live in TX and i know adoption regulations vary from state to state but i was just curious, maybe i wanna adopt later on in life who knows.

  1. It isn't hard at all. Contact your DSS/CPS and get the information. It is unlikely you will be placed with a young/teen girl, but beyond that, it is a relatively easy process...they are looking for all types of homes and parents.

When my wife and i adopted a child from Russia, there was a single woman who adopted a girl.  She had basically the same paperwork that we did, about 4 inches.  2 inches in the US, and 2 inches in Russia. We had an agency (now defunct) that helped out.  And, they provided a translator for our group in Russia.  Fairly smooth.  Very expensive.

  5. I DONT THINK YOU CAN ADOPT AND BE SINGLE CALL AN ADOPTION AGENCY.

In WV you can do it, not sure about your state.  That is a great thought that you may be interested in adopting.  Check with your local children services agency.  They can give you information and shouldn't be pushy as they only want to start the process with people that are certain they want to do it.

    I work for a foster care agency in WV and adoption is a great thing that more people should consider.  It would be tough as a single parent of an adopted child, unless you have a supportive family / friends to help out.  You might want to consider becoming a foster parent to see what you think.  You could probably even request only short term foster assignments (like when primary foster parents go on vacation).

    I know a single lady that adopted a little girl from China so it is possible for single people to adopt.
