  1. Very.  I, myself, don't have an LD, but my daughter does, and every day it is a struggle for her.  Try to imagine being plunked down in a foreign land, not speaking the language, not understanding the customs, etc., but in every way, being expected to walk, talk, and act like a native.  That's what my daughter's world is like.  She gets (understandably) frustrated quite easily - she can read and make the sounds (decoding), or she can understand the concepts presented (comprehension), but it is very, very hard for her to both decode AND comprehend at the same time.  And trying to get her to understand the importance of some abstract concepts (like our monetary system, for instance) is beyond my capability to explain.

And THAT'S just learning how to navigate the world around her and read signs, instructions, etc., etc., so she can function as close to normal as possible in her everyday life.  Add to that classmates that tease her, mimic her in unkind ways, or simply exclude her from activities, and it's a wonder I can get her to go to school at all.  She has truly got to have a warrior's spirit to keep plugging away despite the obstacles.

    Anyway, hope this helps.

  2. My son has a ld and every day is a battle ..

He struggles understanding basic tasks such as washing

He becomes very frustrated and gets angry and loses his temper and then cries before he has even left for school

He hates being treated as different in school .. he hates not understanding the world as we see it and understand it

He feels very alone and gets very depressed ..

He has no friends as no one wants to play with the "freak"

My son knows he is different and i have always been positive with him
