  1. First, you apply to an agency.  This is usually just basic information such as marital status, finances, health, etc.  Most charge a small fee.

Once approved, they will mail you a packet that includes a contract and further instructions.

You have to meet the requirements of the People's Republic of China, the requirements of the US, and the requirements of immigration.  It is certainly not easy.

China only allows married couples to adopt (single women used to be accepted, but that is no longer the case).  Your marriage has to be a certain number of years, depending on whehter there are any divorces in the past.

Both parents must be atleast 30 years old, and can not be more than 55 years old.

You must not have a criminal record.

    You must not be obese.

You must not have poor health, have physical deformities, or take antidepressants.

Once you send all of your paperwork, the Chinese authorities will match you with a child and you travel two-three months later, spend two weeks in China, and return with your child.

Currently, the process is taking approximately three years from start to finish and costing around $25-30,000.

Check out http://www.CWA.org-that agency has the requirements available online as well as a timeline.

I hope this helps, and wish you the best!

  2. Takes a lot of time and a lot of paperwork.  My friends are going on 4 years waiting.  Their paperwork keeps expiring because it is taking so long.  So they keep having to redo everything.
