They spelled his middle name wrong- Mathew. We had a hard time agreeing on his name. Now I think I want to change his name from Finley Matthew Tanner-Brown to Finley Alexander Brown. Not sure about that but for sure want to fix the mispelling. How do I do that and is it a big deal?

  1. i think about 99 dollars to do this but its court or something you can do it and not big deal though.

  2. i would change it before he gets old enough to know or remeber the name you dont want

  3. As for the mis-spelling...go to your local social security office, if they spelled it wrong on the social security card...if they did it wrong on the birth certificate, I would contact the hospital and go from there.

  4. It's simple - fill out forms, pay a filing fee.  Do it before he's too old or he will be confused forever.

  5. Change Finley while you're at it.  That's a HIDEOUS name!

Go with Matthew Alexander Brown.  That's a strong, masculine name.  Finley looks so funny!

Go into probate court and ask for the forms for legal name change of a minor.  They are VERY easy to fill out.  If you have questions, ask the people in the court.

The hearing is set a month later.  For an adult you have to put the name change in the newspaper, but I don't know if you have to for a child or not.  The hearing only takes like 3 minutes.

  6. its not hard at all both parents have to sign and thats it. you can do it at court or since your baby is under 1 you can go to your county department of vital statistics (where u get birth certificate from) at least in ohio thats how its done

  7. I like Finley Matthew though Mathew is also an acceptable spelling of Matthew.

  8. There should be information with his birth certificate

  9. As long as both parents agree it is as simple as filling out a paper and paying the court cost and having the name changed.

  10. just go back to the hospital and go to the records dept. when a child is born they take down the name of the child and record it (put it in the data base) and send a copy to the state capital to the bureau of statistics just show them a copy of your sons new name and they will either help you or give you a form to fill out to send to the bureau of vital statistics to change your sons name.

And i don't think you'll have to go to court to have his name changed for he's not even a year old i can see going to court if he was let say 12 or 13 but take my advice and talk to an legal aid on this matter on whither or not you have to go to court
