Question:

How hard is it to get accepted into a college after doing this?

I was attending a university. I completed 3 semesters, but the 4th semester I was enrolled I ended up not completing it. I was put on academic suspension for a year. It has been longer than a year. I do not wish to return to that university to finish my degree. The classes that I did receive credit for I know that I got no lower than a B. When applying to different schools, how hard will it be for me to go back? Will they look down upon the fact that I didn't complete that semester? Obviously I would explain to them what happened. And from what I hear, this isn't all that uncommon. I know what I want to major in now. I know what I want out of life now. I didn't back then. So I want to finish college. What do you think my chances of getting into a decent school are?

  1. Your chances are quite high as long as you have good grades and high ACT or SAT scores. That is what I heard. I could never get into Harvard or Princeton even if I tried.

  2. You should be fine. I kindof had the same situation and I got accepted under probation for a year.

    Good Luck

  3. I work at a university, and I have seen all manner of situations. We understand that things happen, and most of us believe that people deserve a second chance. (And sometimes a third, and a fourth!)

    Good luck!

  4. You might want to order you transcript and check to see that they didn't drop you with an F since you was enrolled but did not show up for your 4th semester.

If that was the case, you would want to talk to the school to see if you can make up that class.

  5. I'm a senior in highschool so i've never been to college but my older cousin was in a situation exactly like that, she was attending Notre Dame and her junior year she was put on academic suspension for a year because she had a party where there was a bunch of alcohol and got caught, so she waited her year and did not want to go back, and began applying to other colleges, the best one she could attend ended up being gustavus adolphus college in St. Peter Minnesota. Gustavus is an instate college for her and is not nearly as good of a college as Notre Dame is, so I'm sure you'll get back into a college, but i would keep my expectations low

  6. I think your chances are good.  Be sure and tell the truth and explain just the way you did in this question.  The Dean will take everything into consideration

  7. It depends where you're applying but it shouldn't be hard. I didn't really have to talk to anyone when I transferred. It really is no ones business why you took a break, remember that. As long as your grades are okay you should be okay. I think that it is great that you want to go back to school! Don't give up:)

  8. not very hard
