  1. No fear is good! I moved to Hawaii with a strong swimming background, so I wasn't afraid to get into overhead swells.  The only thing is you will wipeout- often!  that ok though because that's how you learn.  No fear is one component. the other is how well you can train your muscles to react and how quicky you learn to read the wave you are on.  Get in the water, watch others in the line up. Once you have gotten past simply "going straight" down the wave, then go and get a few videos, and watch them in slow-mo, studying the body language, and how they position themselves onto the waves.  If you start on a longboard, watch how others place their feet, and how they move their feet on the board.  Getting up on the board is easy, learning how to move your weight and turning while take a little while.

  2. It takes years to get good.

Also, you will learn fear, and humility, from surfing.

  3. easy.

Anyone can get up on the board and surf.

But if you wanna "get good" you will have to live it. Meaning you will have to embrace the culture and ask questions. Dont be afraid to try crazy things, thats how you learn

  4. It's hard. It takes a lot of dedication. I'm an amateur at best and I've been at it for years.

  5. snowboarding doesn't help that much cause surfing has a totally different feel and position than snowboarding.

    no fear??!! thats awesome

u can be ok in around a year

  6. Some true answers here. It's d**n hard learning to surf, much harder than snowboarding. The reason is because there are so many other factors than actually standing up on a board. Getting paddle fit, to a stage where you can have 3 hour plus surfs takes long, learning to duckdive is very hard. Learning to judge waves when paddling into them is d**n hard.

Not worrying about wiping out, and being in shape, plus snowboarding will give you a big boost though. People who snowboard often have a passion for the other awesome board sports (skateboarding and surfing) which can carry you a long way...

  7. You are obsessed with surfing
