I have an attic window I would like to replace. it's pretty small and looks like it would be a fairly simply DIY project...but I was hoping for some insight from someone who has done it before. maybe there is something that I'm not thinking of that would make it more trouble than it's worth to do it myself??

  1. Pop the molding off from around the window. Cut the screws with a reciprocating saw. Pop out the window. Put the new window in with screws. Use Great Stuff foam to fill the gaps (don't overfill). Put the molding back on.

Buy Black and Deckers Complete Guide to Home Repair. I'm sure they show you how to do it in there..along with about 150 other useful things. It should be included with the sale of every house. I have literally saved thousands of $$$ with this book.

  2. Depending on what kind of window you have in your house, you may need to cut around the exterior of the window frame to get it out.

  3. is it wood frame or concrete? i did concrete and dry wall around a window and oh my gaawwwww. what a byatttchhhh.

  4. You don't say wether you want to replace the frame or just the window insert.

If you are going to replace the whole fram be sure you can get a peplacement to fit otherwise you are opening up a can of worms.

  5. If your the handy sort, it's doable. Get a "how-to" book and check it out. If you think it's beyond your capabilities, hire out.
