  1. it is quite hard to learn ... but easy if you practise hard at it

it is really hard to learn how to do proper figure skating jumps, spins and steps ... you have to have enough confidence to do them

but learning to skate forwards wouldn't take you long at all to learn

  2. its really not at all

just getting started into may take a couple days, but its really quite simple to start

  3. fepends, doyou mean ice skate or competitive figure skating, because ice skating is easyas pie but learning to ice skate competitively takes years of training

  4. well i guess you wont know until you try then :) i suggest group lessons - you get to meet new people and skate with people at the same level as you.

the main thing i think people find hard is the feeling of being on such a slippery surface, but you get used to this fairly quickly. after a while you wont even notice it.

a few other things that hold people back are fear of falling and skating away from the barrier. its actually good to fall; i find I'm more relaxed after i do and can practice a lot better, plus it wakes me up if i haven't been paying enough attention! :D it means you are learning..

just remember to tuck your chin to your chest if you go fall backwards (stops you hitting your head) and when ever you fall try land on your butt or thighs. also tuck your hands in.

when you first start its OK to be near the barrier, but don't use it for balance constantly. you need to find your feet on your own, just do it in your own time.

the most important things to remember are: dress warmly (gloves are really good; wear thin socks or tights on your feet.), BEND YOUR KNEES  (helps soooo much with balance and lessens fall impact; also gives you more power), keep your arms up at shoulder height for balance (also makes your skating look a bit nicer), keep your head up (don't look down at the ice, it'll always be there) and HAVE FUN! :D as long as you are having fun then it doesn't matter how long it takes you to learn new things.

    good luck, and happy skating!
