  1. here's how to learn how to snowboard:

1--LEARN TO SNOWBOARD ON OWN: If you are unsure whether you really want to get into snowboarding you could rent some gear, buy a lift ticket, go to the top of the mountain and try to ride down. This method is the cheapest, but not really the best way to learn. Injuries are more likely to happen and you really aren't giving yourself a fair shot at learning to snowboard.

2-- HIRING AN INSTRUCTOR: Hiring an instructor is definitely better than snowboarding on your own. They can teach you snowboard tips in one lesson that might have taken 5 days of snowboarding on your own to figure out. However, snowboard instructors are expensive and right when you have a thousand questions the lesson is over.

3--THE BEST APPROACH TO LEARN SNOWBOARDING: Pre-training, before you even get to the slopes, mental training, physical training, and on & off hill practice. Pre-practicing will program your mind and body for snowboarding, which will make your first day on a snowboard seem like your 100th.

4-- Snowboarding is one of the best sports, give yourself a fair shot at enjoying it. Pre-practicing is the best method for learning to snowboard. There are some good and not so good books/tutorials about learning to snowboard. I've found one that I like a lot because it focuses heavily on pre-practicing. If you were to pay an instructor for all the lessons you get out of the tutorials you would end up spending thousands of dollars. Find a good tutorial and use it. You will be on your way to being a snowboard master before you even hit the slopes.

    Good Luck and Have Fun!

  2. if you already ski, I'd stick with skiing. it's a lot harder for a skier to learn how to snowboard than somebody who hasn't done either.
