I'm 14 turning 15 in a couple of days. I'm just wondering how hard is it. I watched little leagues series. and they are supposedly to be the best of there age group to present there state, country. I'm not impressed, i know i can do better, so how hard exactly is it to make MLB? are scouts interested in High School Baseball or College? My School doesn't have a baseball team only softball.. i know it sucks. My dream is to go PGA , MLB, or anything Sport Related..

  1. go for it

the one you enjoy is the one you will prevail!

  2. My, you sure have a lot of self-belief. Are you sure you aren't overrating yourself? Unless you are truly exceptional getting into MLB or the PGA tour is extremely, terrifyingly tough. You and your family would have to make huge sacrifices too. I know someone who tried to make the PGA tour. After traveling all over playing in tournaments to try to win his way through he finally gave up. You can bet that people try everything going and I mean everything to make it.  Sorry, I don't know much about the scouting system so I can't help you there.

  3. the best way to make a major league team is to run onto the field in the middle of game. Just run out to the position that you want to play and tell whoever is there that you will take it from here. I am sure that you will have no problems if you do it this way. If they do not want to leave their position, just push them out of the way. I am sure no-one would care because you are obviously better then they are.

Just try it, i am sure no one will care

...or you could be like everyone else and talk to your coaches and try to get them to make some calls to some college scouts and get them to come out and watch you play

  4. I would assume they accept graduated drafts from high school, and sometimes they go through a supplemental round (where I think the teams with the loss of the most free agents get to draft younger players).  However, usually before you can make it to the major leagues, you'll have to go through the farm system of minor league teams and prove your worthiness there.

It's tough, I would imagine.  I myself am 13 and I haven't played on any baseball team outside of school.  Working hard at the sport everyday and being dedicated will definitely help.  I've taken the initiative for myself by swinging everyday and throwing the ball to improve my power and accuracy.  Joining a team will also help (Babe Ruth is the one most accessible to both me and you)

  5. It's extraordinarily difficult. Nearly impossible. If you want to go for it, you have to totally dedicate yourself to it. Work hard on improving your baseball skills for several hours every day. That's the only way you can make it.

  6. Extremely tough.  Keep in mind that many of the players who were the stars of their high school teams never even make it out of Class A ball.

  7. It's hard because not a lot of people focus on the MLB. Some just play baseball and then give up. If you focus and practice, you can do it!! I think scouts go for other leagues that are AAA most likely.

  8. Consider this. MLB is international and only the best player playing there (Well they got paid millions of dollars, hope to be the best). Each year say 100,000 players (pure guess) output playing baseball since 12 years old. 10,000 players make the little league team (or equivalent level) around the world. (1 in 10, I think that is fair). 2,000 players turn professional (1 in 5 from armature team to professional team). MLB roster is 40 men but a team probably only need 3 new players from minors each year. There are 30 teams so the whole league needs around 100 new players. (1 in 20)

So from the development to MLB, it is about (1 in 666)150/100000 will make the MLB team. I am working in the UK as an electrical engineer in Siemens. The employment rate in the UK for Electrical Engineers is 0.9%, which means 99.1% of us will have jobs. I consider my company is one of the top companies and can be hard to get in. As an electrical engineer, we intake 10 trainee engineers each year, normally 200 graduates applying for the position. (1 in 20).

Well, from minor league to Major league has probably about the same chance as getting a job in Siemens from you graduate. However, considering playing the little league and get into minors (1 in 50) and 99.1% electrical engineers have jobs. Professional baseball is very difficult job to get.

Just a note. Siemens only takes graduate engineers with Master degree from good university and study Engineering degree is a bloody hard thing to do. Becoming a professional baseball player is about 10 times harder.
