How hard is it to make money playing poker online.?

Question

Would it be hard to make $1,000 a month playing poker online. I need the money to pay for spend money and my college expenses except for tuition.

If you have no experience playing poker, it will require educating yourself and getting experience.  You should start with a good book or two like Ed Miller's Getting Started in Hold'em or Matthew Hilger's Internet Texas Hold'em and master the basics of the game.  You will need to practice at lower limits to master the skills you learned from the books.  If you have the capacity to be a winning poker player, 1k a month is certainly doable.  It took me about six months to get myself to that level.  Some people take more or less time and some people never manage to win at all.

There are many real ways you could make money online.  Which one you do will depend on you as a person and how much time you have.  The less time you have, generally the less money you will make.  If you think of it as a business and build it for the long run, you will make more money.  A few ideas come to mind:

1) Do surveys/email ads.  Low pay but its easy anyone can do it.

2) Offer a service.  Maybe writing articles, web design, something you can do that not everyone else can.  Pays better.

3) Adsense/ads on your website.  Can pay good if you have a website with lots of traffic.  Downside is, if you have no traffic or a very generic website then you will make very little money.  At least you don't have to do anything other than put the ad code on your website :)

4) Sell affiliate products.  Anyone can do this but not everyone can do it properly.  Good money if you are good at it.

5) Sell your own product.  Easier than it sounds.  Similar to selling affiliate products as in you need to know what you are doing.  This is a very good way to make big money, but not over night.

I'd go looking for forums about making money online.  There are heaps around.  Get with people who are also interested in it and you will slowly learn new ideas.  Hope that helps.

It depends, if I was on your place I wouldnt start because nothing is sure, you can win but you can lose and then you will have even less money for you college.

Unless you have a great deal of skill, experience, patience and time, I would not plan on making $1000 a month playing online poker. Find other ways to make your money for college.

If you do choose to try it, here is a helpful strategy for newer players, it helps you play at the top levels of the game while you gain playing skill and experience.

You're going to need several things to do this.  First of of course is the skill.  Some of this you can get from other people and some of it, especially the mental part of the game, you're going to have to pick up yourself.  Second is you need the time to devote to it.  Third you need the desire to do it.  Fourth and finally you need a decent bankroll to start out with which will allow you to play decent sized games, not big mind you but decent.  It's doable though but don't expect to just jump in and find it falling in your lap.  It does take work and committment and patience.
