I am starting college soon as a freshman and obviously I don't know anybody in any of my classes. I am scared that I am just going to be sitting there talking to no one and is was just wondering how hard is it to actually get to know people in my classes. Even my roommate who I actually know isn't in any of my classes.

  1. Just remember that everyone is in the same boat as you!  Nobody is going to get mad at you for talking to them, I'm sure they'd welcome the chance to meet someone too.  There are lots of ways you can open up a conversation before/after class, if you feel really nervous about it try thinking up some situations beforehand.  Ex: "I didn't catch that last bit she said about XXXXX subject, did you?" or "Man this guy's notes are hard to read!" are fairly easy ways to start a conversation.  Also, if you see someone in a few of your classes, it isn't a bad idea to ask them what their major is and if they'd be interested in making a study group.

  2. Don't worry, everyone is just like you. I was thinking the same thing when I started college this summer, but no one knew each other! You just gradually start to make friends with the people around you when asking about a test or assignment, you'll see. A good time to socialize with people is before and after class. Another way to make friends with people in a class is to inform the class you are making a study group. I made friends that way. :)
