a few questions...

How hard is it to move from the USA to France?

If I become a foreign exchange student for a semester or summer for my senior year, will that increase my changes of being able to move there?

What would I have to do if I wanted to attend College in France? Would I have to get a visa?

and some not so formal, just curious questions...

How do the French veiw the Americans, do they think we're trash that needs to stop coming to there country or what?

And what do they think of the American accent?

  1. no, as long as you have atleast 3 job oppurtunities there, know the currency rate, and can speak french.

20 years ago a national servey was conducted of the major nations (including U.S) to see what nations were rated the highest by other countries based on people, culture, etc. We were rated 3rd most popular. The same survey was conducted 5 years ago and now we are in 17th place. Our reputation is going down quickly based on our culture changes in the past couple of years. France was included in the survey...

  2. Anything that improves your potential job skills, language ability, or helps you make contacts in France will make it easier to move to France, so, in that sense, the semester abroad is useful.

You certainly can do your entire college education in France and yes this does require a visa but student visas are liberally granted. You will, however, have to pass a language proficiency exam. Are you genuinely fluent?

Public college is, by the way, free (aside from some relatively small fees). There is no payment required for tuition costs as in the USA.

Be aware however that the French educational system is quite different than what you are used to. Its more formal and considerably more rigourous.

Despite the stock talk about the rude French who hate Americans the fact is that the French, in many ways. utterly adore America.

Marlboros are the best selling cigarette brand in France.

American movies and TV shows are everywhere.

American musical forms are so slavishly aped that when I tried to buy a "fake book" of French music in Paris a few months ago I couldn't find one.

Starbucks, McDonalds, KFC, Dominos, etc etc are everywhere in Paris. Their popularity is such that many people fear they may decimate the traditional cafe and bistrot culture.

What many French people dislike is American government policy. But then if polls are to be believed so do many Americans. Don't confuse a political disagreement with a personal or cultural one.
