I would like to give up my US citizenship for a Swedish or Canadian one. What are the steps I need to take for this to work flawlessly? Is it possible to have Dual Citizenship? If I don't give up US citizenship but stay/work in those countries how do I pay taxes? Do I get double dipped? If you have done this please respond with your story. Thank you for all your responses.

  1. You never get a Swedish or any other European Citizenship without a good job, good education and somethimes even a examination in local language, culture, ect. Tax will be paid to the country you live, most of the times automaticly by your employer. Dual citizenship in European countries combined with a the US citizenship is possible.

  2. It's not that easy to immigrate to Europe and some European countries do not allow dual citizenship.  Canada does allow dual citizenship and it's not too hard to immigrate there.  The fastest way right now is through a Provincial Nominee Program, see http://www.google.ca/search?q=provincial...

After you get permanent residency in Canada, you would have to live there for 3 more years before you can apply for citizenship.
