  1. Two to four days.  And by "comfortable" I mean able to go down a run without falling over at all and being in control of your board all the time.

You should definitely take a lesson to make sure you get running as easily as possible.

After the first week of boarding when you get to the point where you can do a run no problem it's really easy to improve from there so don't let that discourage you.  It's super fun and well worth the effort.

If you've thought about boarding don't ski because you want to be able to do something right away, it'll just delay the inevitable time spent learning to board.

  2. It doesn't take long. I was just teaching my friend to snowboard last weekend. After an hour or 2 he was up and goin down the bigger hills. You just gotta keep goin and don't give up

  3. Before you start, I would recomend doing alot of leg/torso related exercises a few weeks before you go to get your muscles prepared to balance on the board. You will use alot of muscles that you hardly use on a daily basis. After that, go straight to the top of the mountain. It is a waste of time to practice on the beginner slope. You will learn alot quicker if you ride down fairly steep slopes because it is actually alot easier to keep an edge on a steep slope and you will learn how to lean into the slope. If you research different tips on the basics of boarding you will save yourself alot of time because if you dont know what to do you will only be practicing bad habits. But thats another topic...

  4. People generally learn to snowboard pretty quickly. The learning curve on a board usually allows you to be as good as your gonna be after just about one season.

Of course you will always be improving after that, im just talking about the basics. Some learn to be proficient after just a few days on the snow.
