How hard is it to play goalie and wear glasses?

I used to play street hockey in grade school and played goal.

I haven't played in about 10 - 12 years and I'd like to play around again on a street hockey league.

I now wear glasses though. Do you have any experience with them fogging up under the goal mask --- either in hot or cold weather???

Is there any problem with them sliding down to give you a poor view of the puck???

Any other potential problems???

I just don't want to waste my time and others. Can you wear glasses and play goalie?

  1. you can start with glasses but contacts are best. Glasses fog up but you can curb that by rubbing a little shampoo in the lenses the letting it dry to a haze and polish it off like waxing a car. That is what we did in Jr.'s to keep out shields from fogging up.

Also if your glasses are glass and not sport frames you can have them break on you.As a goalie your peripheral vision is key and glasses make that hard.

Think about contacts it was the best move I made for my game.

  2. my friend is a goalie and he wears glasses and he usually wears contacts but when he wears them, he needs to unfogg them when the whistle goes off so u should use contacts when u block ur teams net

  3. You can (I do - play goalie and wear glasses) but it's tough. In a street hockey league you should be ok as long as you clean the lenses before donning your helmet. I wear a do-rag by VSI (the un-appreciated ancestor of Under Armour) under my helmet and that makes a huge difference, especially as I play ice in Texas where it's been in the 80s even at midnight with 30 - 70% humidity the last few months. (usually between 90 and 110 during the day)

To those who are going to say "wear contacts!" that's easier said than done. I have tried them numerous times but they just won't fit in my eyes. I'm not sure if it's a stignatism (sp?) or what, probably more because there's a history of glaucoma on my Mom's side of the family.

Laser surgery? Sure thing. Who wants to sponsor me?

Until then, I play with my glasses on because otherwise my vision gets blurry and I get headaches faster than the puck travels.
