I found a 98 harley sportster to buy with about 6000 miles on it. the guy says its ready to ride for the rest of summer, but the carbs need to be cleaned and also needs new spark plugs. will it do any harm to the bike if i dont clean the carbs right away? is cleaning the carbs and replacing the spark plugs a job i can do myself? about how long would it take? whats a general overview of the process (or if you want to get specific that would be even better). is it pretty straight forward or if i dont really know what i am doing, could i potentially cause a bigger problem if i mess something up? thanks a lot

you say if you "know this little about bikes you shouldn't start out on a Harley"
my way of thinking is that it is a perfect starting point, after all Model "T" technology is super simple. now if it were "real" technology you would have multiple carbs, or even fuel injection.
Each to their own don't you think??
