Ok so, one of my best friends dad is prety freekin rich lol. sooo this winter hes gonna take a group of us to Utah to ski, and in 1 year, to Switzerland to ski. my friend told me its like majorly hard in switzerland, like the place we'de go we'll have to jump like 10, 15 feet out of a helicoptor onto the mt, cuz theirs no chairlifts. LOL. so my question is, 1. how hard is it to ski in both of these places? and 2. ive never skied b4, but im gonna go a few times b4 all the trips, and do u think i have enough time to learn? keep in mind i pick up athletic things fast, and ive been snowboardin and ppl say its a lot harder than skiing.

  1. there are ski lifts in switzerland. Your friend is pulling your leg. Playing ice hockey might help keep strong legs which can help. If you are going heli skiing (Skiing ontop of random mountains) it will be very hard for you. Unless you get like 5 lessons in at a local mountain. You might be able to survive if you take lessons. If you go to a ski resort. Don't worry at all!

  2. Switzerland will not be harder at all, it may look way more advanced but every resort has its share of beginner and intermediate runs. You will not have to jump out of a helicopter.

  3. Yeah pretty sure theres lifts in Switzerland. skiing in utah is as easy as you want it to be. There are extremely easy runs, and there is extremely difficult runs. you just pick and choose. btw powder mountain is the best place to ski in utah. theyre only $53.00 and theyre the biggest in the country.

  4. I live in Utah, and at any of the ski resorts there are beginning to advanced runs. Sundance is the easiest ski resort, but the snow there is not always the best.  If you take lessons, you should be able to get down basic skiing in 1-2 lessons. Just remember to keep challanging yourself so you get better.

  5. Switzerland is a very nice place to ski. They have gondolas (like trams) and ski lifts. You don't have to jump out of a helicopter.

In Utah, if you go to the right resort its really easy. Park City, Alta and Snow Bird are the harder ones, with more technical runs. Brighton and Solitude get better snow and have easier runs. Canyons is about average. And those are the ones in the Salt Lake area.

Skiing is not that hard to learn. My friend from Georgia picked up skiing in 1 ski season. In 1-2 lessons you could get the basics to be able to go down green circles MAYBE blue squares if you pick it up really fast (classifying system for how hard the run is. green circle is the easiest, then blue square, and black diamond. double greens are the baby runs, double or triple blacks are the hardest).

I have heard that snowboarding is easier than skiing if you have never skiied before. I started boarding after I was a very technical skier and I though it was almost impossible. Keep in mind that the Alta resort doesn't allow snowboarding, so you can't use it as a default in case you don't like skiing. Anywhere else, you could.

  6. When you go to Utah, take a series of lessons from a qualified professional instructor. If you want to keep the friends, take the lessons from someone else.  Your boots are the critical piece of equipment that must fit correctly.  Buy them when your feet quit growing, until then do a season rental.

Since you are in sports, add some other things, like jump rope, dancing, and balance and reaction drills.  These will help with the hockey anyway and can help break the monotony.  After 5-10 days in Utah skiing, You should be able to ski  Switzerland with some effort.  Do not ski alone, never be afraid to back out of a run that is too much for your ability.  Expect to fall, learn how to land safely, same as in hockey.  You should have a ball.
