Question:

How hard is learning guitar compared to other instruments?

I tried to teach myself guitar once before without much luck... I wasn't terribly dedicated though. I learned to play piano on my own quickly and easily, and I can already play sax and flute very well (albeit, I took band for years to lean to really master both of those). If I really buckled down and forced myself to practice, should I be able to play in a relatively short period of time (a year or so)? Is guitar one of the harder instruments for most people to learn?

  1. Very easy.  I can't play separate melodies with my left and right hands - so the piano was very difficult for me.

The key to playing ANY instrument is understanding music theory.  Notes, scales, chords, modes, progressions, etc.

  2. its not necessarily the hardest to learn... u just have to have some influences... like mine is angus young from ac/dc and chuck berry

and just have fun with it, like jam with some friends... i play with my uncle.

when ur having fun its easy to learn any thing

  3. You already got a leg up on almost everyone else out there, you already know how to play some instruments. A string instrument is out there a little bit, when comparing to woodwinds, but you know how music works and you can do it the right way. Don't listen to people that say "yeah, I learned from online and blah, blah, blah" They think that they are good, but don't really know what they are doing musically. Knowing piano helps you out enormously, and you should have no time learing the music on the guitar, just take time getting  the feel of a stringed instrument.

  4. f**k what they say, i kick a** at guitar, and i've been playing        1and1/2 years. easy, if you take lessons, from online, or a guitar lesson place.

  5. Guitar is actually one of the easier instruments to learn, because you don't have to know how to read music to play it.

  6. If you have force yourself to practice it would take longer than if you just did it cause you wanted to but it's not extremely hard. you just need proper guidance from like a teacher. thats the best way to go

  7. It is one of the most difficult instruments to master.  Beethoven referred to the guitar as a mini-orchestra.  Everyone picks it up because they want to look "cool," but it takes countless hours of practice, talent, passion, inspiration, hardwork, and time.  If you have these, then you are already on your way to being a good guitarist!

  8. It is a hard instrument. With any instrument you pick up, it's gonna be hard since you've never played it before. In a few months you should be playing SOMETHING easy. There are so many little things you have to cover (basic chords, how to hold the pick correctly, etc.) that takes time.

Guitar is an instrument you need lessons for, even if you use books and the internet to help you.
