How hard is the admission test for UNAM?

It's not too easy. There is a lot of competition to gain entry into the largest university in the Americas. For one, it's almost free. It' also the best university in Latin America.

The entrance exam is in Spanish and I'm not sure of the length, but I assume it's similar to uni exams in the US.

It  is the academic institution that offers the greatest variety of educational options in Mexico. Over 260,000 students are enrolled in high school, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.  UNAM offers more than 300 programs of postgraduate study and conducts about 50% of the research done in Mexico. In addition, it carries out an extensive program of cultural dissemination and academic activities."

Below are some links to help you. the www.cademx.com website offers courses in DF to help you prepare for various entrance exams icluding UNAM. That course costs $1,200 pesos ($120 USD) and takes 90-150 hours depending on when you go. Some of the other good schools in Mexico DF are Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN), Universidad Autonomo Metropolitana (UAM) both of which are public. There is also the Tec de Monterrey. It gives classes in both English and Spanish. It's probably the best private uni in Mexico. It's also the most expensive, about $6,000 USD for tuition plus books and other expenses. There are many other private uni's that are much cheaper. One, Universidad Insurgentes, only costs about $2,500 pesos per month ($250 USD). No entrance exam, and no thesis to recieve your degree. Accredited by SEP (Secretary of Education) you can get you degree in just over 3 years.
