How hard is the jump from Tennis to Racquetball?

I played tennis in high school, but racquetball seems more popular for a pick-up game in college. I still want to say active but don't really want to designate all my free time to learning a new sport.

  1. i would say its more fun because you can smack the ball as hard as you can and itll usually stay in.

im not sure how hard the transition would be though, but i would assume it wont be that difficult since you have some sense from another sport on how to hit a ball and control it im assuming. and ya, raquetball uses more wrist im assuming and have to be more flexible and have faster reaction time

ive had friends go from raquetball to tennis and they had an easier transition than my friends who have never played either sport before.

  2. The two are very different, so you'll have to play racquetball several times to know if you like it. I'd say that tennis may be a better workout, mainly because R-ball has a back wall to play off of.

The play of the games are barely comparable, mainly because of the stiff-wristed swing required for tennis (though great players can use some wrist snap) compared to the flexible wrist snap, along with a lower body profile that is used for racquetball.

I am a high-level racquetball player and a HORRIBLE tennis player. I think it's better to start with tennis and switch to racquetball then the other way around.

  3. Racquetball is totally different than tennis.  Unlike in tennis, you don't use a full swinging stroke in racquetball.  You use a lot more wrist action in racquetball to hit the ball.  But you should pick it up pretty quickly since you already have good hand eye coordination and footwork from tennis.  Good luck and have fun :)

  4. i just started raquetball after 7 years of tennis and i must say its pretty different from tennis. its uses much more wrist and a lot of running, plus u wear funky glasses its fun, but id still rather play tennis

  5. After playing tennis for four years, I recently got into playing racquetball with my mom. It is a completely different game. Instead of using your entire body to swing, as in tennis, racquetball simply requires a flick of the wrist. When I played my first game of racquetball, I did horrible because I was taking too long to bring my arm back, twist my body, etc. to hit the ball. Racquetball is much more fast-paced, and the rules are totally different. I would say that the only things I could take from tennis and apply to racquetball were coordination and footwork; other than that, get ready to learn a whole new sport!
