Question:

How hard was your Septoplasty and Turbinate procedure...really?

I recently had a septoplasty and resection of the turbinates following blunt force trauma to my nose during an assault, which occured just over 5 years ago. I had two minor procedures done within the six months following the incident, to remove fragments of bone and cartlidge. I put off having the "big one" done until about 10 days ago.

I was in no way prepared for the amount of pain that was involved, and most of the research I'd done indicated that the pain wasn't quite that bad. I've had three of my four children with no medication or pain relief (even with one of them stuck face up on my pelvic bone...OUCH...and later a complete hysterectomy with full bladder repair and "hammock"), so I didn't think I was a wimp, but now I'm not so sure. I scheduled a second follow-up with the surgeon tomorrow to talk with him about it. He did say that I had a good amount of sutures and that his work was extensive, but I'm still worried. I went back to work after 8 days (I did work very briefly from home during that time), and by mid-day I'm ready to start pushing people out windows to get to my pain meds.

Has anyone else out there who's a certified non-whiner had as much pain as I'm having?

  1. There are two forms of pain. One is physical and the other is emotional.

I don't really get your question.

    Hope you feel better.

  2. During my follow up I asked him to put new splints in, it helped relieve some of the pressure for me since obviously you swell when the surgery is first done.  What you don't realize is how much it affected by your nose and you can't even make the simplest facial expressions.  After 3 weeks or so it goes away.  I guess with this surgery the benefits definitely out way the side affects.  It's miserable for the first month but it is so worth it when you're healed.   Make sure you use plenty of saline solution several times a day it will take away all the excess blood and gunk and prevent any infection.  Good luck, hang in there and I hope you feel better!!!
