Im 14 years old and I live somewhat close to a beach that my family has a beach house on and I wanted to know if learning how to surf is going to be extremely hard, or somewhat easy. I have been wanting to do this pretty much all my life, but I haven't really gotten into it; Im pretty much scared that I will mess up so bad and embarrass myself. I have been snowboarding for about...5 years now and I think im very good at it, BUT I can not wake board for my life. The longest time Ive ever stood up successfully on a wake board would be no longer than 5 seconds. Do you think this whole surfing thing would come easy, or hard for me?

  1. Girl I am 20 and I just learned how to surf when I was 19. The first week is heck if your upper body isnt well worked out. But its worth the pulled muscles. lol. I never worked out and still learned how to stand up with some help in one week. For the first month my friend taught me. I will say that to learn YOU HAVE TO FALL. The only time things get painful is when the board hits you which WILL HAPPEN but like I said its worth it.Trust me its not difficult once you get past that first month it rocks because you will start experimenting doing different moves. It will be great. Go for it you will fall in love. Have fun.

p.s. wakeboarding is a whole other story lol.

  2. you just have to try it and practice

odds are you are going to fall on your first time it's nothing new but if you keep at it you'll be good at it i'm sure

  3. sure, but u have to try harder than me, i started at 5

  4. If you're a good snowboarder than at least you've got good balance so you're ahead of most people who are learning... other than that surfing is not like snowboarding.

Surfing it not at all like wake boarding so don't even worry about not being a good wake boarder!

You just need to get out there and do it... you're going to fall, (just like you did when you were learning how to snowboard).

Don't expect to be good right away, don't give up too soon and you'll get it - don't worry.  :-)

Get yourself a long board, (at least 9' long - they're the easiest to learn on), and read this great article for beginners at this surfing blog: http://www.buy-rash-guards.com/rashguard...

It's got some great tips to help you get started.

Most of all - have fun!!!

  5. Snowboarding helps but only a little.  Don't sweat sucking, we all started there.  Surfing is probably the hardest sport to learn.  Not only do you have to master your equipment but you have to learn to deal with an unpredictable environment to do it in.

  6. a lot of people I know are fourteen and surf.

it wouldn't be too hard if you tried hard.

try going a lot in summer and having someone who can teach you well.
