I am a single mother of a 4 year old girl, and will be a nurse soon. I am thinking of moving to Ireland as I have done a lot of research on other countries and really seem to like the government, lifestyle, and values in Ireland. I want to be realistic though, and not plan on anything that would be unreasonably hard. Also, how would a single mother be received in an Irish community?

  1. Yes it is definitely doable. The fact that you are a single mother is not an issue . If you qualify as a nurse this will be helpful as there is a big demand for nurses here. It might be an idea to check with an Irish embassy about work permits ect. What you should bear in mind if you decide to relocate is accommodation and childcare are pretty expensive. If after everything you decide to go for it there is a lot to be gained. Ireland is a good place to live. I an Irish but I lived abroad for 10 years so I can say this without bias. We have our problems like other countries but we have a pretty good quality of life. Ireland has changed a lot in the past 10 years but I think most Irish people are decent and have pretty good values . I hope this has helped a little. The best of luck whatever you decide.

  2. No, no no..do NOT come and work in the Irish Health System. It is abysmal. There are thousands of Irish nurses leaving Ireland to work elsewhere, don't bother.

  3. yes you would be welcomed, just start to look for a house, irish love americans and vice versa, good luck in finding a house

    i live in n.ireland

  4. Best of luck working in the health service here, its third world and the minister of health is useless, she couldnt run a chicken farm. We are all afraid to break a leg here, in case we spend three days sitting on a trolley in the A&E car park waiting to be seen.

Single mothers are commonplace here, my mam is a single mother so you will have no problems with that. Dublin is very expensive to live in, so I would look at other towns outside of Dublin that are near hosiptals. There are hosiptals in Galway, Waterford, Westmeath, Portlaois. www.oasis.gov.ie has loads of info into moving to ireland
