How hard would it be to ship a computer to America and use it over there?

Here's my predicament. I wish to buy a new computer here in the UK in the next few weeks, but in a few years time, I may have the opportunity to live in the US with my boyfriend. If I did go to America, would it be easy enough to use the computer over there, and more importantly, how hard would it be to get the computer over there in the first place? I've had a little experience with using my laptop in the US (the laptop mysteriously stopped working, by the way), but I'm curious to know if it would be possibly to carry out what I've asked. :]

  1. Will work perfectly fine.  I sell them all the time to Americans from Lakenheath and Mildenhall.  Just make sure the power supply is switched to 110v on your return to the States.

  2. You say ".... in a few years time ....".

By then, your computer would probably be obsolete in any case, and you could consider buying a new one when you get to the 'states. They are cheaper over there, I believe.

I don't understand your concern over shipping stuff to the USA. You will presumably be sending clothes, etc., so you would send the computer, if you took it, as part of that shipment. Where's the problem ?

  3. As long as your computer works on 110v you won't have a problem. Check your power supply to see if it says it works on 110V as well as 240V . You might need to flip a little switch. Obviously don't do it until you get to the states or you'll blow it up.

  4. well te plug is different other there. but part from that he should be ok.
