How has Sid Meier's 'Civilization' changed your understanding of history and world events?

Well I was very knowledgeable in regards to history before playing Civilization. It was my prior interest that attracted me to the game. So I personally did not learn anything by playing, but I did notice that if one takes the time to read the descriptions contained in the game they're actually rather good.
