  1. A better question might be "How hasn't World War II...?"  I think you'll have a hard time finding aspects of culture, government, and policy not shaped to at least some extent by WWII.


  2. Germany decided to become virulently anti-fascist, and has the strongest anti-n**i laws in the world.  The government returned to pre-n**i forms, but was now  a democracy such that Hitler-types could not usurp power again.  (He had become supreme ruler with only 33% of the vote.)

    Japan became very pacifist in outlook.  Her society was practically rebuilt from ground up, with the help of General Macnamara.  US liberals saw the chance to implement reforms that were too radical (at the time) to implement in the US, eg., collective bargaining (right to set up unions) became a constitutional right.  The Emperor remained (same fellow, Hirohito), but was a constitutional monarchy, like England.
