  1. Ever piece has had it's moves changed, except for a) the rook that was so simple only the Japanese screwed it up (the Lance is different enough) and b) the Knight which was so complicated that if someone messed up he was corrected.

From Charatunga to the European ladies version we play today the only similarities are an 8x8 board (essestially, if a game has a 9x9 board but you play on the 8x8 intersections it is an 8x8 board) and at least five "Major pieces" with different abilities behind a row of minor pieces we call pawns with similar capabilities to other pawns.

  2. not only has the look of the board and pices changed but some styles have changed as well. i am a personal fan of speed chess. we can also play chess on our computers, game systems, phones, etc. we can challenge anyone we want through the internet or play aggainst the computer. there are now strategy books out and what not too. i wouldn't say it's changed all that much but rather expanded to different audiences of people :]

  3. dull question limited answers

  4. It got even more g*y.

  5. When Chess was brand new in what is now India, the pawns could not advance 2 spaces on the first move. That's why the Indian defenses are called that. Then the pawns could move 2 spaces on the first move. The next change was to streamline the game by allowing castling in one move. Next came the rules about You can't castle through a check or out of a check. Next, they noticed that a pawn could pass itself if an opposing pawn was on the 5th rank, so they passed the en passant rule. The final change is the rule that a rook and bishop against single rook gets 150 moves before a draw is declared rather than the usual 50 moves.

  6. It has not changed. Only the colours of the chess pieces.
