Absolutly, climate affects the spread of ideas and inventions, as well as the spread of people.  People living in hostile regions need to focus a large percentage of thier time into the basic needs of life.  

   Peoples that historically lived in plentiful areas had more time to pursue things like writing, art, science, and medicine.

Well lets see there would be different crops that could have grown there or only 1 type of crop could grow there how well the poeples clothes are depends which way they sometimes conquer.

Seems to be one of the greatest influences in the way civilization developed.  If you look at modern Man and start of civilization, the way that we live today can be traced back to about 10,000 year ago, when the polar caps melted and ice age ended causing a dramatic shift in the way humans could live their life.

Civilizations settle near or around water sources and where the climate is not extreme.  You don't see too many civilizations in the blazing hot deserts.

if its a very cold climate their life style is focused on keeping warm and having enough to eat
