  1. Well, it no longer takes days to get a message 50 or 60 miles.  It has turned the world from local communication to global communication (with the exception of much of the 3rd world).

    Beginning with the laying of trans-Atlantic telegraph wires up until now with the Blackberry or iPhone and ALWAYS being able to be reached, do research, access the internet and e-mail, technology has made communication global and nearly instantaneous.

    add cell phones (sms and mms) faxes conferences via webcam...

    generally its a lot faster

  3. In little over a hundred years, we have gone from telegraph code-key and wires strung across the country to satellite digital TV, GPS, Internet, Cell phones, camcorders, DVD players, 2-way radio, etc.

    I'd say that communications has gone through quite a few metamorphoses in the span of just one or two generations.
